A slumbering Southgate resident was abruptly awakened by the presence of three masked armed suspects in her bedroom together with her housekeeper who was pointed with a knife, on Wednesday.

According to the complainant, the trio of balaclava-clad robbers gained entry via the front door which was open.

Phoenix SAPS communications officer Captain Louise Naidoo said: “The house keeper was sitting in the lounge and one suspect who was held up with a knife. They then took her to the owner of the house who was asleep.

The suspects used a bedsheet to tie up the complainant and her domestic helper. The tenant who was at the rear of the house heard noises and upon investigating was also accosted by the three suspects.”
Cpt Naidoo said that one of the suspects pointed a firearm at the tenant and he was also tied up in the bedroom with a bedsheet together with the two other victims.

“The house was ransacked and cellphones, as well as Samsung televisions, four car keys, several items of clothing and home appliances were loaded into the complainant’s car, a 2014 black Mercedes Benz which was also taken. The suspects exited through the front driveway gate. No shots were fired and there were no injuries to any of the victims,” Cpt Naidoo added.

Cpt Naidoo said the black Mercedes Benz was recovered by members of the Phoenix Trio Crimes unit in Ntuzuma. The vehicle was found abandoned and locked. Police are investigating a house robbery case.
