Montford cousins, Thashmika Naidoo and Azzariah Kassim, encourage residents to be safe and take all necessary precautions in preventing the spread of Covid-19 this Spring Day
With uncertainty looming over the festive season in KwaZulu-Natal, Montford cousins, three-year-old Azariah Kassim and 10-year-old Thashmika Naidoo, are looking forward to welcoming Spring with open arms and the delight that it deserves. Covid-19 lockdown ruined many summer plans in 2020 and fears of the same happening once again have led to Durbanites looking to spring to provide much-needed relief and entertainment as the province races to get as many residents as possible vaccinated against the deadly virus. With spring symbolising themes of love and joy, Kassim and Naidoo are among those who are hoping for the upcoming school holidays to be just that. Naidoo encourages residents to treat the beginning of a new season as a new chance to do good acts of kindness and stand together, especially during these uncertain times.
“As we begin a new month and a new season, I hope that we can all play our part in keeping each other safe in the pandemic. Many people came together to protect each other during dangerous times so we should be doing the same and protect each other from spreading the Coronavirus. Wear your mask, sanitise and keep your social distance so that in the future, we can spend happy times together once again. We need to stay away now so we can be together in future.” Naidoo also said with the start of spring, residents should stock up on their hay fever medication to keep the sniffles at bay! KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala, said it was still too early to tell about what lies ahead for the festive season, but that it remains at the hands of every citizen. “Our third wave seems to be taking longer to subside than the other two waves. We continue to closely monitor trends associated with it. At this point, it is difficult to say what kind of December holiday season we will have in so far as infections and fatalities are concerned. Only time will tell in this regard. But, for our part, we are implementing our plan, which is only as good as long as the public are willing to play their part by getting vaccinated, and also observing all non-pharmaceutical prevention measures, which we are urging them to do,” he added.
