South Africa’s karate legend, Hanshi Sonny Pillay, delivered a knock-out blow to his opponents in his landslide election victory as president of Karate South Africa (KSA) recently.
The election attracted a record crowd of over 100 delegates from throughout the country to the Coastlands Hotel, uMhlanga. The election officer who presided over the proceedings was the president of KZN Sports Confederation and member of SASCOC, Thami Mchunu.
“It was a sweet victory given that it was for a fourth term that I was contesting. The margin of vote difference between my opponent and me was 60-7 in my favour. I am delighted to report that complimentary messages of good wishes from karate personalities around the globe started pouring in non-stop since the elections, praising my victory,” said Pillay.
Eight other members were also elected on the day to serve on the KSA executive committee. In his acceptance speech after being elected, the seasoned leader promised to serve and honour the karate fraternity of South Africa with distinction.
Mchunu congratulated the newly-elected KSA executive committee and wished them huge success on the way forward. “KSA is a successful sports organisation and they will have the support of the KZN Sports Confederation whenever the need arises,” said Mchunu.
