Sinika-Uthando, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), recently concluded a successful capacity-building workshop, sponsored by the Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority SA (WRSETA). The event brought together 60 committed delegates from various registered NGOs across KwaZulu-Natal.
Jenny Chetty, director of Sinika-Uthando, said: “This national initiative provided the opportunity to empower senior delegates from various NGOs and focused on critical subjects such as mastering oneself, servant leadership, NGO financial development, funding opportunities, NGO compliance, and gender-based violence (GBV) sensitisation aimed at empowering communities.”
Chetty, who also addressed the workshop, was recognised for her impactful work in the NGO sector. She shared valuable insights and strategies that equipped attendees with essential skills to lead effectively and promote sustainable financial growth within their organisations.
Adding to the depth of the programme, Dr Sithembiso Hlophe, a distinguished subject matter expert in NGO development, provided a wealth of knowledge on best practices and innovative approaches for enhancing NGO operations and community engagement.

These include management and supervisory qualifications, wholesale and retail programmes, petrol service attendant training, and retail excellence courses. Sinika-Uthando Foundation is also a strong advocate for women’s rights and plays a critical role in the fight against gender-based violence. It supports survivors through its safe house, Sinika Eye of the Storm, offering a secure space for those seeking refuge.

Our safe house provides more than just temporary shelter; it’s a lifeline for survivors, offering counselling, legal assistance, and life-skills training to help them rebuild their lives. The foundation’s comprehensive support services include: counselling and emotional support, legal assistance and referrals, help with police and court processes, community education and awareness programmes, life-skills development, and a specialised GBV safe house,” Chetty said.
