R355 000 worth of school uniforms was handed to four different Tongaat schools following the June Tornados which severely impacted the north of Durban.
The Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom visited four schools and provided learners with new uniforms, including school shoes. Sibaya Casino General Manager, Virath Gobrie, said, “It has been shown that lack of access to school uniforms negatively affects school pupils’ attendance. Sibaya engaged with the schools who submitted their letters of request with lists of what was required, and we hope that these new uniforms and shoes bring about renewed focus, self belief and energy as these learners progress towards the end of the academic year.” Gobrie said.
Gobrie added that following the June disaster, Sibaya provided uniforms and school shoes were handed to 363 affected learners at Uthongathi Primary School, Mitchford Primary School, Tongaat Secondary School, and Nkosibomvu Secondary School.
Following the reception of the uniform and shoes, Nkosibomvu Secondary School Principal Henry Cebekhulu said, “On behalf of Nkosibomvu Secondary School, I wish to extend our gratitude for the uniforms donation. After the disruption caused by the tornado in June, this support has brought our learners a renewed sense of pride and allows them to focus on their studies with confidence. Thank you once again and we will welcome any future assistance.
