The Brighton Beach SAPS Corporate Communications Officer, Captain Le Roux, said the initiative was created for female staff at the station and has a dual purpose of celebrating as well as empowering women. She said the enveloped gift contains card messages that empower and aim to motivate women in uniform.
“The Envelope of Empowerment had the objective of being an outreach tool for the days when we become despondent and we need some motivation that reminds us that we are fabulous beings that can overcome any challenges we encounter.” Recipients of the envelopes were encouraged to reach out to other women by sharing the content of the envelope with them. “Staff was encouraged to take a photo of an appropriate empowerment card and forward it via WhatsApp to a female family member or a friend, so they may in turn empower other women who need support. Empowering our staff so that they may go out and empower other women in the community is another objective of this initiative,” added Capt Le Roux.
Seventy-five envelopes of empowerment containing a total of 560 messages, will ensure that women are empowered and inspired with a gift that will linger on, long after celebrating Women’s Month. “Through this internal project, the Women’s Network ensures that the strategic objectives of the organisation are achieved by investing in the female human capital of the organisation, while acknowledging the women of worth within the SAPS,” Capt Le Roux said.
