Mandy Pearson, a Durban North resident, was celebrated on 10 December in Bhambayi, Inanda, North of Durban, for her years of commitment to transforming the lives of young adults, orphaned, and vulnerable children.
Pearson, CEO of the ReStory Foundation, formerly known as the Bhambayi Project, expressed her gratitude to those who gathered to honour her. Pearson said, “I was so humbled to be honoured by the very people I esteem the most. God has given each one of us gifts to transform the world- how powerful it is when we all do our part. I am so thankful for every person connected to ReStory who is doing their part to transform our nation.”
In recognition of her work, Pearson was presented with a hard hat, symbolising her efforts in building and transforming lives in challenging circumstances. The hard hat was inscribed with a verse from 1 Corinthians 3:10, “By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.” Additionally, one of the staff members washed her feet as a gesture of appreciation for her selfless service.

Pearson reflected on the ReStory Foundation’s journey, which began 18 years ago. She was spiritually led to the Bhambayi community, which had been affected by floods. Alongside Lillian Mokoatle, a Bhambayi community leader, they established the ReStory Foundation, initially known as the Bhambayi Project. Their primary focus was to empower communities to work together to transform the lives of orphans and vulnerable children through relationships and empowerment.
Today, the ReStory Foundation supports over 200 orphans and vulnerable children, their caregivers, and unemployed young adults in the community. Pearson emphasised that their work extends beyond individual cases, addressing systemic issues such as child abuse, neglect, and rape. She also encouraged charitable givers to consider giving in ways that truly transform lives, rather than just providing temporary solutions that may perpetuate long-term poverty.
