A man in search of valuables in a rubbish dump made a gruesome discovery when he stumbled on a black refuse bag containing a human head and two legs dismembered from below the knees in Amouti on Friday 3 October.
The man who found the body informed the community who contacted Reaction Unit South Africa for assistance. On arrival, community members pointed out the heap of rubbish and the refuse bag containing the body parts. Prem Balram, head of RUSA said: “Injuries to the head indicate that the deceased was assaulted. Officers discovered a second refuse bag wrapped in a white, blood-stained sheet. Upon further inspection, two human legs dismembered from the knees to the pelvis were discovered.”
While attending to the scene, a resident informed officers that a body part was located approximately 500 meters away. Balram said: “Officers proceeded to the pathway and discovered a dismembered penis. A pink child’s jacket and blue baby blanket were found next to the plastic bags containing the body parts. Both garments were soaked in blood.”
Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: “Police in Inanda are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which human body parts were found along the main road next to a dumping site at the Lusaka area of Amaoti in Inanda on Friday morning. A human head and feet of an unknown person were found inside a black plastic bag. Next to that bag was another transparent plastic bag containing human legs. Blood-stained clothing items and a blanket were found at the scene. Suspects are unknown at this stage.”
The gruesome incident garnered a lot of attention on social media with many expressing shock at the brutality of the killing. On Facebook, a commenter, Dayna Gabriel said: “So people are even cutting people up to dispose of their bodies, like they mean nothing, like their life is nothing. This is disgusting to say the least and I am shocked. This is giving Jeffery Dahmer vibes.” Another commenter, Shanice Singh said: “I can’t believe we see things like this right before our eyes, Such a gruesome death, they took a sadistic pleasure in tormenting him. I hope the killer gets what they deserve.”
