Greenwood Park’s hip hop queen Ashleigh Lafoy, aka Lex LaFoy, is set to release Frisk, a combination of reggae and rap. The song will be released on Friday, 28 March.
Lafoy said the song title was taken from her appreciation for moments of physical contact with others through frisking at airports. She said: “The song is really about finding one’s peace and holding on to it. It’s about understanding the human need for connection in a very tech driven era.” Lafoy said her song includes a very vulnerable admission to needing human physical contact every now and again.
The song was produced by Bl4nk G4l4xy (pronounced Blank Galaxy) – which is made of
Cape Town-based Hugh Davison and Johannesburg-based Musa Zwane through a correspondent process over 10 months – and is a hybrid of reggae and rap, delivered over
a simplistic dub-like riddim.
The release is accompanied by a music video with cameos by local artists Celestial Mic, IamKingPvnda, Kev7 and others. The music video is directed by SAMA award-winning director and editor, Slimdogmillionaire (also from Red Hill) and features key coastal landscapes across the Zulu Kingdom.
