Vehicle owners whose cars have been impounded by the Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS) have been urged to collect them before 5 June 2026 or risk losing them permanently.
In a public notice issued this week, Metro Police said all vehicles currently being stored at municipal pound facilities must be claimed within the stipulated period.
According to the notice, vehicle owners will be required to provide proof of ownership before any vehicle can be released.
This includes presenting a valid identity document together with the vehicle’s logbook.
Motorists have also been reminded that all outstanding fines, towing fees, storage costs, and other administrative charges must be settled before collection can be finalised.
The Municipality warned that vehicles remaining unclaimed after the deadline may be disposed of in accordance with municipal by-laws and procedures.
Vehicle collections can be made at the Metro Police Headquarters at Archie Gumede Place in Durban between 8am and 4pm.
Residents have been encouraged to act promptly to avoid additional storage costs and the possible forfeiture of their vehicles.
