Celebration were the order of the day at the Sheriff household when Farhaan Mohammed Sheriff, a standout student from Crossmoor Secondary, achieved remarkable success in the 2024 National Senior Certificate Examinations.
His hard work and dedication have earned him distinctions in Mathematics, Physics, Life Science, Information Technology, and Life Orientation—a testament to his academic excellence and commitment.
Sheriff said his journey to this achievement was not without its challenges.
He said: “Adapting to new study hours and cutting out distractions were difficult adjustments to make. In addition, the loss of my beloved grandmother during this time weighed heavily on me. Despite these personal hurdles, I tried my best to remain focused, drawing strength from my supportive family and dedicated teachers, particularly Mr V Pillay and Mr Khan, who guided me through the complexities of Physics and Mathematics.”
Sheriff added that the importance of a strong support network cannot be understated and credits his family’s encouragement as well as the motivation from his peers for helping him stay on track and remain consistent throughout his studies.
“With their support, I was able to tackle each obstacle with determination and resilience, emerging stronger and more focused,” he said.
Now, with his distinguished results in hand, Sheriff is ready to take the next step in his academic journey. He plans to pursue a career in medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand, a path he is excited to follow with the same passion and dedication that defined his school years.
Sheriff’s message to this year’s matriculants is clear: “You have limited time, so use it wisely. Avoid procrastination, stay focused, and always aim for excellence. With the right support and mindset, you can achieve great things.”
