After receiving complaints from wards 34 and 36 residents about not being able to get to the “central” vaccination sites, the respective councillors said they had a meeting with the provincial Health Department where they suggested a site closer to community members.

Ward 36 councillor, Shontel De Boer, said they chose Greenwood Park Hall for residents of wards 34 and 36 as it’s closer to the community members because they have received complaints about the travelling distance to Moses Mabhida Stadium and Addington Hospital. Cllr De Boer said they secured the hall, and residents came in numbers and it was all systems go for the vaccination drive for the people over 50 and 60 years old. Cllr De Boer, who also got her jab, said it was a quick and smooth process, and said she takes her hat off to the Health Department. “There was a bit of a technical delay and registrations were done manually, but it was a quick process. There were no incidents. I feel wonderful after taking the vaccine. I have not experienced any side-effects, no aches or high body temperature. I am happy to have received the vaccine. I encourage people over 50 and 60 to go and get vaccinated. We will continue to thrive to bring the vaccination drives closer to the communities,” said Cllr De Boer.
