A vision long held by local Early Childhood Development (ECD) champion Zanele Nzimakwe is finally becoming a reality — and the community is invited to help bring it to life.
For 13 years, Zanele has been a dedicated field worker with The Domino Foundation’s ECD programme, guiding and mentoring women running township crèches towards becoming fully registered centres of learning. Now, she’s taking a bold step forward to realise her own dream: the opening of her very own ECD centre, aptly named ‘Fountain of Life’, in the heart of the Etafuleni community in Amaoti.
Zanele’s dream has been supported by Hosanna Women, a women-led non-profit company passionate about empowering Black women in education. It was after a heartfelt conversation with Michele Gorrie, a director at Hosanna Women, that Zanele’s vision began to take shape. With land secured and building plans underway, Fountain of Life is set to open its doors early next year.
“Zanele is exactly the kind of passionate and committed woman we love to work with,” said Michele. “Hosanna Women partners with aspiring and established crèche owners, walking a personalised journey with each of them. Our aim is to help them become fully registered and sustainable preschools in line with national education standards.”
Now, to raise funds to build Zanele’s centre — and others like it — Hosanna Women is hosting a Family Fun Run at Westville Country Club on Women’s Day, Friday 9 August. With both 5km and 1km courses, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities, the event promises to be a joyful celebration for a powerful cause.
“This is more than just a run — it’s a step towards changing the future for hundreds of children and empowering women in our communities,” said Michele. “By supporting this event, you’re helping create places where little ones can learn, grow, and thrive.”
