Over the past few years, robberies, often accompanied by beatings or stabbings, have become a common occurrence on Jabu Ngcobo Drive heading towards Glenhaven Drive, leaving the Verulam SAPS and local security companies inundated with calls for assistance.

A year ago, the non-profit organisation Generation of Radicals, a group of proactive citizens, took it upon themselves to cut and clear away the heavy vegetation spread over the 1000m² area at a cost of over R22,400. This initiative had reduced muggings and other crime in the area drastically at the time.

With the area again becoming overgrown, the organisation has received many calls and appeals from the community for help. One year after the initial clean-up, Generation of Radicals has taken on the project again.

Founder of Generation of Radicals, Pastor Kevin Chetty, said: “Generation of Radicals is mainly supported by family members and hardly by the public. We call upon many companies in the neighbouring community and many companies in the Verulam CBD to aid us with this venture. We are very grateful to a church in Tongaat, Radiant Word Ministries, for their partnership in helping by purchasing much-needed tools for the workload.”
