Just after 05:30 this morning, ALS Paramedics responded to reports of an alleged cash-in-transit robbery on the N2 southbound near the NPC Cement factory, south of Durban.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, initial reports indicated that multiple security officials had been shot during the incident. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found a chaotic situation with emergency services attending to the injured.
Two security officials were found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds. One guard suffered critical injuries and the Netcare911 helicopter was activated to rapidly airlift him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The second security official sustained serious injuries and was stabilised at the scene by advanced life support paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The N2 southbound was closed from the M7 Edwin Swales Interchange off-ramp and is expected to remain closed for some time while investigations continue. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
At this stage, the circumstances leading up to the incident remain unclear. Members of the South African Police Servicewere on scene and have launched an investigation.
