Two beloved animal foster and rescue organisations, SerendiPitty Rescue and SAFE, partnered to bring canine lovers a fun treat for the whole family with a Canine Carnival that was a resounding success.
The carnival was held on Sunday, 30 April, at Northlands Girls High School main grounds. Canine lovers and their fur babies flocked to the grounds for a world of fun, bonding and support for a good cause.
Founder of SerendiPitty Rescue, Nicole Jack, said: “We had a wonderful day and we were taken aback at the support we received. Our musicians, Angie Kittle and Glo Mapenzi, were amazing. SANBS had a fair amount of blood donated and CANSA also expressed their joy at the turnout. We handed out loads of prizes and even reunited with our dogs who were previously adopted.”
The event was the brainchild of Jack along with directors of SAFE Kerry Janke, Claire Augustyn and Victoria Naidu, after both organisations worked together to assist the vulnerable dogs in their midst.
“We had interactive games for kids and adults with the chance of winning some awesome prizes. There was also be many vendor stalls selling various items from food to carnival treats to gin and craft beer, t-shirts, doggie items, jewellery – and so much more. There was a little something for everyone,” said Jack.
Both Jack and Janke said that rescue is a vital part of community. The number of animals that are being abused, neglected and dumped are at all time high. While individuals may not be able to directly rescue an animal, they can definitely be part of rescue by supporting them. Without community help rescues cannot exist, and without rescue’s the community has no one to help the animals in need in their area.
