Choose your career path at the youth centre’s careers expo

The Nelson Mandela Community Youth Centre will host its annual Careers Expo this Saturday, 24 May from 9am to 1pm.

The mass event which is sponsored by TransMed Shipping is called the Education, Careers and Jobs Expo. The free event will host over 70 exhibitors from higher learning institutions, companies offering jobs, internships and learnerships, vocational training centres, government departments and financial study aid agencies.

Sheryl Nair, a volunteer from Dreamcatchers from the youth centre, said: “This expo annually attracts thousands of young pupils, students, out of school job seekers, graduates, parents and teachers. This is a great opportunity to interact and network with job recruiters and higher institutions who are showing off career choices. For many this expo provides the first step towards a career path from high school, financial study aid, studying at a higher learning institution and to finding a job.

“Those attending can go to every stall and meet face to face with professionals and ask questions. It’s an incredible chance to learn where your future could lead and get valuable advice from people that could make all the difference to your career. There will also be a free career development session to help students and young adults better understand their interests, strengths, and decision-making readiness as they plan for their future by doing a short assessment. This will provide valuable insight into themselves and their career paths.”

People of all ages are welcome to attend the free Careers Expo this Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Exhibitors wanting to participate should contact Clive Pillay on 061-429-2574.
