Love was in the air at Church of Liberty in Northcroft, Phoenix, as Benny and Premi Pillay celebrated an incredible 54 years of marriage. Surrounded by close friends and a community of well-wishers, the couple marked their anniversary with joy, reflection and gratitude.

Their love story began in the late 1960s at School 17 Summer School in Chatsworth. As fate would have it, a young Benny Pillay spotted a radiant Premi walking with her sisters while he was walking with friends to a local shop. He was instantly captivated. They exchanged a glance, and he decided to muster the courage to approach her. He introduced himself and asked if she would like to go to the movies with him. She agreed, and that Sunday evening date blossomed into a romance – and eventually, a lifetime together.

After many months of courting, the Pillays eventually tied the knot in 1971. They built a life filled with hard work, strong values and unwavering devotion. They were blessed with three children – a son and two daughters. However, their journey wasn’t without its challenges. Having lost his father at a young age, Benny took on the role of provider early in life, working seven days a week to support not only his growing family but also his mother and siblings. His resilience and determination became the foundation on which their family thrived.

“I want to thank my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, for giving me the strength and provision I needed during the hard times. I am deeply grateful for my wife, my children, our grandchildren, and our sons and daughter-in-law. They are my greatest blessings,” said Benny.

As the Pillays celebrate this remarkable milestone, their legacy of faith, family and perseverance continues to inspire all who know them.
