New principal predicts bright future for Crossmead School

The newly-appointed principal of the Crossmead Primary School, Anand Naidoo, says he will work towards giving the school in Crossmoor a brighter future with a safer learning environment and progress.

Naidoo was posted to the school in his 35th year in the profession, having been a teacher at many schools, including Risecliff Secondary and Malvern Primary.

He said: “When I began my studies, teaching was the obvious choice at the time. I wanted to be a teacher because it is a noble profession and a respectable job.”

He said he had experienced changes, and some were affected by the politics.

“I started under the tricameral parliament’s House of Delegates (Indian education department) and then embraced the transformation with the dawn of a new democracy. The new dispensation ushered many new changes and with each leadership change, a new curriculum was introduced. This posed many challenges and affected teaching delivery, we as educators had to constantly reinvent ourselves,” said Naidoo.

Naidoo plans to change at the school: “The buzz words are transition, transformation and curriculum differentiation. We need to embrace change. Our purpose is to deliver quality education with the focus on preparing the child for his or her rightful place in society, using a holistic approach to teaching.’’

“My initial goal is to provide a safe environment conducive to promoting positive learner outcomes and developing a well rounded child so that they can make a meaningful contribution to the community and society at large.”
