A brazen midday business robbery at a popular fast-food outlet has led to the arrest of two suspects, thanks to swift action by South African Police Service members attached to Mayville SAPS.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on April 14 at approximately 12pm at a KFC outlet along King Cetshwayo Highway in Durban.
It is alleged that five armed men stormed into the premises, producing firearms and knives before confronting staff in the kitchen area. The suspects threatened employees and proceeded to empty tills, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as personal cellphones belonging to staff members.
The group fled the scene in a vehicle, but crucial information was gathered during the initial investigation, setting off a coordinated manhunt.
Police later tracked down the suspected getaway vehicle in Lupin Road in Sydenham. Further investigation led to the arrest of one suspect at the scene.
Building on this breakthrough, a multi-disciplinary team comprising Mayville detectives, the Provincial Tracing Team, the K9 Dog Unit, and private security was assembled to pursue leads. Their efforts led them to a residence in Ntuzuma, where a second suspect was successfully apprehended during a targeted raid.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on April 17, facing charges related to business robbery.
Investigations are ongoing as police continue efforts to track down the remaining suspects involved in the robbery.
