At just 18, Westcliff resident Mckallister Johnathan Kuhn is already carving out a deeply personal and expressive path through art—one that began almost as naturally as picking up a pencil.
Kuhn describes art as more than just a hobby, it is a calling that has shaped his identity from an early age. “I started drawing from the age of five. I just picked up a page and got to work,” he said.
From those early beginnings, his passion steadily evolved into a disciplined craft. Inspired by anime, human anatomy, and facial structures, Kuhn found himself drawn to the intricacies of expression and form. What started as curiosity soon became a driving force that pushed him to refine his skills through consistent practice and dedication.

“Art came naturally to me, but it wasn’t without effort. I’ve spent years working on my technique to get to where I am today,” he explained.
A significant influence in his journey has been his uncle, a painter whose striking landscapes left a lasting impression. “His work was unlike anything I had ever seen. It made me realise how powerful art can be,” Kuhn said.
Today, Kuhn works across various mediums, constantly challenging himself and exploring new ways to grow as an artist. The pieces he has chosen to showcase reflect both his progress and the depth of his artistic journey.
For Kuhn, art is not just about creating visuals—it is a deeply personal form of expression. “It’s my way of communicating how I truly feel, both to myself and to others,” he shared.
