Police and private security companies are intensifying joint operations to dismantle sophisticated crime networks in the Phoenix area, resulting in the arrest of two suspects during a tactical operation in Trenance Manor on Wednesday. The operation, a collaborative effort between KZN VIP Security and the Phoenix South African Police Service (SAPS), targeted a robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for a string of armed robberies across the region.

KZN VIP spokesperson, Gareth Naidoo, noted that authorities had been actively monitoring the syndicate for several months following a spike in armed robberies occurring during the morning hours. Through coordinated intelligence-gathering and strategic vehicle tracking, operational teams successfully located the suspects’ vehicle. The pursuit concluded at a scrapyard in the Trenance Manor area, where officers moved in to intercept the individuals.

During the swift apprehension, two suspects were taken into custody, while a third individual managed to flee the scene on foot and remains sought by authorities. Naidoo confirmed that the apprehended suspects were positively identified by several victims. Furthermore, the suspects were found in possession of stolen property linked to recent crimes.

A search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed a toy firearm, which investigators believe was used to threaten and intimidate victims during the robberies. Further examination of the vehicle indicated that the number plates had been removed, a common tactic used by syndicates to avoid detection by CCTV and law enforcement patrols while committing crimes.

The successful infiltration of this syndicate is seen as a major victory for local law enforcement. Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing to link the suspects to other unsolved cases in the greater Durban area. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activity to strengthen the intelligence network that led to these arrests.
