The Sydenham Training Centre has celebrated a significant milestone, presenting certificates to its first group of trainees for 2025. Forty young people from the local community have successfully completed skills-based training designed to enhance their employment prospects.

The certificate handover marks a promising start to the year for the centre, which operates under the NPO, focusing on equipping local youth with practical, workplace-ready skills. Formal graduation will be announced at a later stage.

Speaking at the event, the training centre founder, Tasmien Losper, said the achievement reflects hard work, resilience and strong community support.

“This is our first group of trainees for 2025, and we are incredibly proud of the 40 individuals who have received their certificates. We work closely with the Department of Labour, and all our trainees are placed on a database so that when job opportunities arise, they can be notified,” said Losper.

She added that some trainees will continue with the full duration of their courses this year, including practical components, to further strengthen their skills.

Losper also addressed false rumours surrounding the centre, emphasising the positive impact the programme continues to have. “Despite negativity, we remain focused on our purpose. A heartfelt thank you goes to the KZN School of Welding and Training Centre, Sydenham Pharmacy, community members, and my dedicated team who worked tirelessly and believed in this vision. Without your support, this would not have been possible.”

The centre offers a wide range of courses to equip trainees with both technical and soft skills, including entrepreneurship, communication, workplace safety and management, electrical engineering, welding, boilermaking, plumbing and carpentry.

Registration for new trainees opens on 16 February 2026, with the centre aiming to expand its reach and continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people in Sydenham.

“We remain committed to educating and uplifting our community. We call on companies, community members, retired lecturers and the government to assist us in growing this initiative and empowering our youth. Our doors are open, and we look forward to welcoming new trainees and supporting their progress,” Losper said.

The successful handover of certificates highlights what can be achieved when a community comes together, proving that Sydenham’s youth are gaining the skills and opportunities needed to build a brighter future.
