A Challen Avenue resident was shot and killed while washing his vehicle at his property on Tuesday, 23 September 2025.
The community was left reeling in shock by the news of the murder. The victim was identified as Ravi Naidoo from Northcroft.
KZNVIP emergency and medical response teams rushed to the scene and found the victim with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
KZNVIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said: “Despite immediate medical assessment, the victim showed no signs of life and was declared deceased by KZNVIP paramedics. According to witnesses from the area, two males were seen exiting the premises shortly after gunshots were heard. Two spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.”
LECS Security spokesperson Mark Nadasen, who also responded to the scene, said the victim had been washing his vehicle when the gunmen struck. “The hosepipe lay discarded near the deceased’s body. He was still inside his property when the fatal shots were fired. Police were on scene and all protocols were observed,” Nadasen added.
The motive behind the shooting has not been confirmed.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: “Police in Phoenix have opened a murder case after a 54-year-old man was fatally shot on 23 September 2025. Reports indicate that the victim was at his place of residence at Challen Avenue when he was shot by an unknown person. The motive is still unknown.”
