The Newlands East Humane Society (NEHS) has given young girls in the community both the motivation and the means to chase their dreams.
On Saturday, 100 girls attended the NEHS Wildflower Career Day, each dressed to represent the career they hope to follow—from doctors and teachers to engineers and lawyers. They spoke about why they chose their paths and the importance of education and hard work.
“It was an amazing day, yet a bit emotional for me,” said Nadia Bernon of NEHS. “There are many challenges in our community, but I pray these girls stay in school, remain positive, and achieve their goals.”
On Monday, NEHS, in partnership with The Angel Network and Subz Pads, handed out 100 bags containing five washable pads (lasting up to five years), three pairs of underwear, and pens. JAM Clothing also donated Barbie masks and underwear for girls aged 10–19 from local schools.
“These donations mean so much,” Bernon added. “They help ensure our girls have the dignity and confidence to focus on their studies and their futures.”
