Driven by personal experiences of poor service delivery, ward 110 resident Bronwynne Delaney, is preparing to contest for councillor during next month’s by-elections as an independent candidate.
Delaney, a ward 110 resident for over 16 years, said for far too long, residents have suffered and felt neglected due to lack of service delivery. Speaking on running as an independent candidate, she said: “Political parties often place their internal priorities above the real needs of the community, leaving residents frustrated and unheard. I refuse to be bound by party politics or dictated to by structures that serve themselves rather than the people. Ward 110 deserves leadership that is directly accountable to the community and not a political hierarchy driven by personal aspirations.”
Delaney said she aims to focus on infrastructure development, community engagement and accountability and service delivery. Additionally, she said she is optimistic regarding her chances and believes that this is the chance for Ward 110 to choose leadership that puts the community first. She encouraged residents to support an independent approach, one that prioritizes the ward’s needs over political games. She said now is the time for action and not mere reporting on matters that have been dealt with on social media.
“I have always been actively involved in improving service delivery, advocating for community needs and working alongside residents and the municipality to address local challenges. My commitment and voluntary service extends beyond ward 110 as I have worked in Inanda, Ntuzuma, KwaMashu, Boxwood during the floods, Effingham and Blackburn affected by shack fires. I have also addressed issues in areas like Tongaat, Mount Moriah, Briardene and Malacca informal settlement,” she said.
“This election is not just about winning a seat. It is about continuing my lifelong commitment to ensuring that Ward 110 and its surrounding areas receive the resources and attention they deserve and need through proper and effective servant leadership,” Delaney concluded.
The ward 110 by-elections take place on 16 April, following the removal of its former councillor, Aamir Abdul.
