The Mount Edgecombe Ladies Golf Committee held their annual Charity Golf Day recently which raised over R150 000 for the non-profit organisations Africa’s Anchor of Hope and Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT).
This prestigious event, a highlight of the Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate (MECCE) golfing calendar, attracted 132 players, including members and golfers from other clubs, showcasing the event’s wide appeal. All proceeds from this event were handed over to charity, with this year’s selectION being Africa’s Anchor of Hope.

This Durban-based NPO is dedicated to empowering children through literacy programmes, homework centres, and library projects in schools throughout the region. Anthea Pampallis, CEO of Africa’s Anchor of Hope, said the day was an outstanding success, far exceeding their expectations.
“The generosity of participants was overwhelming, and the feedback from the 132 players was incredibly positive. The support from our various sponsors was greatly appreciated, contributing to the overall enjoyment of the event,” said Pampallis.
The Charity Golf Day raised an impressive R155 000 and Africa’s Anchor of Hope received R150 000. Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) was also a beneficiary, receiving R5 000 to support their ongoing efforts
“These funds will be utilised to expand our literacy and library programmes over the next year. We are deeply thankful for the support from the Mount Edgecombe Ladies Golf Committee and all the participants and sponsors. The funds raised will significantly impact our ability to reach more children and enhance their learning experiences. This contribution will enable us to expand our programmes and make a lasting difference in the community,” said Pampallis.
