The Grade 1SM learners of Al Falaah College, along with their teacher, Mrs Suhaima Moola, launched their book ‘Butter-Fly to Freedom’ on Saturday, 20 July, at the school’s campus.
The book, beautifully written and illustrated by the young learners, symbolically depicts the situation of the Palestinian people. It evokes deep emotions as the reader experiences a range of feelings about the events unfolding in Palestine. It also reminds us to hold firm to our faith and to believe in the power of prayer.

Fuwaad Ally of Al Falaah College said that the inspiration for ‘Butter-Fly to Freedom’ came from the young learners’ desire to express hope and compassion in response to the challenging situation in Palestine.
“The book reflects their innocent wish for peace and freedom for all children, regardless of their background. Through this project, we aimed to encourage our learners to engage with global issues in a thoughtful, age-appropriate manner while fostering empathy and promoting the universal values of peace and human dignity,” said Ally.
Moola emphasised her pride in the learners, saying that this project has not only enhanced their writing and artistic skills but also raised their awareness about important global issues.

The book took the learners some time as they started working on it earlier in the year. It is currently available for the learners of Al Falaah College and due to the overwhelming response, they are looking to make it available to the public.
“The book contains pictures and words, and so far, we have have distributed 200 copies. We are also working on an online version. However, it is not just online but an interactive version as well, where the respective writers read out the lines when tapped by the reader,” she added.
Parents and teachers who attended the launch were very impressed with the book and all the hard work that went into making it.
