In light of the ongoing turmoil and the overwhelming sense of helplessness as the world witnesses the plight of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, Orient Islamic School (OIS), alongside comrades and fellow South Africans, recently made their mark on the right side of history with an extraordinary mural in support of Palestine.

“Our prayers and efforts, aimed at aiding Palestine, underscore the belief that every small action contributes to a larger impact,” said the school.

In collaboration with the Ikigai Foundation and Vapor Café, OIS launched the beautiful mural that brought together the community in solidarity with the plight of thousands of innocent Palestinians who have lost their lives to genocide.

Additionally, a new drink – “Peace Cola” – was introduced as a symbol of their unity and support for Palestine.

Farah Sader of OIS said: “The saying, ‘But what can I do, I’m just one person, said seven billion people’ perfectly captures the collective power of individual actions. This is exemplified by South Africa’s recent representation of Palestine at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). South Africa’s advocacy for Palestine at this global stage underscores the importance of international law in protecting human rights and promoting justice.

“Historically, the ICJ has played a crucial role in significant international matters. South Africa’s involvement at this level highlights its commitment to upholding international legal standards and supporting oppressed communities. This action not only brings attention to the Palestinian cause but also encourages other nations to take a stand.”

Sader said that South Africa should continue its efforts through boycott, divestment and sanctions, and never cease speaking out about the plight of Palestine.

“These actions are part of the broader Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, which aims to increase economic and political pressure on Israel to end its occupation and violations of Palestinian rights. Public awareness and continuous advocacy are vital in this struggle for justice.

“Together, we can make a significant difference. Our combined efforts, whether through community initiatives like our art mural and Peace Cola or through international legal advocacy, demonstrate that unity and persistence can lead to meaningful change,” she concluded.
