While the path of hard work and dedication is a strenuous one, one passionate Chatsworth cop has proved that his determination and loyalty to the uniform can be rewarding after he scooped the SAPS Chatsworth Employee of the Month award recently.

Station commander, Brigadier Ruth De Villiers, together with representatives from the Chatsworth Centre, acknowledged Constable Lloyd Kistensamy as the winner of the award for the month of April.

Captain Cheryl Pillay, communications officer for SAPS Chatsworth, said that Kistensamy received this award after he displayed traits in the excellent performance of duties category at the Community Service Centre, resulting in the improvement of frontline service delivery to the community of Chatsworth.

She said: “During April 2024, Kistensamy arrested a perpetrator with a rifle and the accused was profiled, linking them to other crimes that were committed in the policing precinct. Kistensamy, who has been a faithful member at the Chatsworth Police Station, was also commended for his sick leave record of not having booked off sick for the past three years. Kistensamy has always exhibited punctuality and professionalism, communicating effectively and also showing empathy and concern for the community of Chatsworth.”

Pillay networked with the Marketing Division at the Chatsworth Centre, encouraging the stakeholder to honour personnel of the Chatsworth Police, who are serving the community with the integrity of heart while going above the call of duty in protecting all citizens.

This request was well-received and the Chatsworth Centre pledged vouchers to any employee or team who excel at their duties.

Naseera Mahomed, marketing manager at Chatsworth Centre, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and hard work of SAPS Chatsworth. They play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our community. This small token of appreciation is a way to show our support and recognise their outstanding service. Chatsworth Centre remains committed to supporting the Chatsworth community and its dedicated first responders. We look forward to continuing this positive collaboration with the SAPS Chatsworth.”

The management team at the police station hopes to boost morale with personnel as they serve at the station.

“The management recognises that the human asset is the most valuable asset to any organisation or form of leadership and therefore, this initiative is a tool that will assist in producing a motivated workforce. Taking a page out of Tata Madiba’s legacy resonates well with personnel at the police station, where the team engages in the improvement of the principles of Batho Pele,” Pillay concluded.
