Police and first-responders were alerted to the finding of a body of a 77-year-old man in neighbouring Malvern last Thursday.

Emergency services and Malvern SAPS detectives were at the scene in the business district of Carrick Road after passers-by discovered the body, which was identified by bystanders of an elderly man known as Perrin William Cornelius, who lived nearby. Police spokeswoman, Sergeant Sthembile Kheswa said that Malvern SAPS charge office received a complaint of a dead body on Carrick Road, Malvern. “Patrol officers and detectives proceeded to the scene. The deceased who was 77 years old was found floating in the river. Upon investigation, the deceased fell from the embankment. While the security guard checked his surroundings, he noticed the dead body floating in the river. An inquest docket was opened at Malvern SAPS and transferred to Chatsworth SAPS for investigation because the scene of the crime falls under their jurisdiction,” said Kheswa.

Chatsworth SAPS confirmed an inquest docket would be investigated. Meanwhile, no arrests have been made following the brutal killing of Escombe resident, Evidence Ntombifikile Seager, 39, (aka Zandile) at her home in the neighbouring suburb.  Seager’s body was found covered with stones, a mat, sand and items of her brother’s uniform at her home. She sustained multiple stab wounds to her chest and upper shoulder, her clothing was partially removed and her ankles were handcuffed. Kheswa, who said that no arrests were made, added: “DNA was taken from the deceased we are still awaiting results. The detectives at Malvern SAPS are working to find leads regarding this case.’’
