Scottburgh SAPS raise crime awareness

In an attempts to alleviate violent crimes against women, Scottburgh SAPS and their Station Commander, Colonel Ralph Ruiters, hosted an awareness campaign at Scottburgh Beach recently.

Scottburgh SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Adam Francis said the awareness show was in celebration of Women’s Month. He said Col Ruiters, members of the Scottburgh Youth Desk and police officials addressed the community on gender-based violence, domestic violence, sexual offences and human trafficking.

“Pamphlets were also distributed to residents and a procession was conducted in Scottburgh Beach, Main Street and the taxi rank,” said Cpt Francis.

He urged community members to report any form of crimes targeted against women or children. “You may ask to remain anonymous when reporting crime.In cases of physical, domestic, sexual and emotional abuse contact your nearest SAPS Station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. For any crimes against children, residents can contact the Childline on 080 005 5555.The Gender Based Violence Command Centre can be reached on 080 042 8428. The Commission for gender equality can be contacted on 080 000 7709. If you know that someone is getting abused, do the right thing and call the nearest SAPS Station or Crime Stop. Keep our women, children and the vulnerable safe,” added Cpt Francis.
