The Newcastle Express has been closely following Iziphosonke’s journey from his humble beginnings in Osizweni to eventually completing his first year of medical school at the world renowned Biola University in California, USA. The latest update on this young lad is that he has now been included in the top 50 shortlist for the Chegg.org Global Student Prize 2022, the annual prize of which is 100 000 Dollars.
The aim of this project is to create a powerful new platform which highlights the efforts of extraordinary students around the world who are reshaping the world for the better. It is also for those students who have made a great impact on their peers and who have excelled academically.
Speaking to the Newcastle Express, Izi could not hide his elation. “I am truly blessed and honoured to be chosen as a finalist. I was chosen from 7 000 students from 150 countries. This is the most humbling experience ever. They call it the Nobel Prize for students so this is really exciting,” said Izi.
He further explained that he has met some of the other students online and their stories are inspiring. “People have great stories that have a huge impact on the world and on the youth, but at the same time I realise that I am not in this fight alone. The battle of helping someone else, the battle of inspiring and motivating our peers towards greater heights,” he said.
Izi continues to do well in his studies abroad and eagerly awaits the announcement of the winner.
