Residents of Dawncliffe have partnered to beef-up security and improve the general state of the community they live in. The residents identified five roads which include Spring Grange, McNess, Ribston, Glenheath and O’Connor, incorporating 79 homes and the area was named Dawncliffe Square.

Resident, Rory Nossiter, said after many meetings, phone calls, WhatsApp messages and much effort a lot has been achieved. “In collaboration with ADT Security, a total of seven poles housing 19 SMART security cameras are currently being installed. These cameras will cover all three entry points and all of the roads in our area. The cameras are monitored by ADT’s Community Control Room. Also the Dawncliffe Square signage has been erected at all three entry points and all roads, gutters and common areas are cleaned and maintained twice a week by two dedicated staff. Litter is collected and correctly disposed of,” he added.

Nossiter said the maintenance staff have been appropriately kitted out in the necessary protective clothing and weeds on road edges and sidewalks are sprayed and eradicated. “Two Waste World garden refuse drums have been placed at convenient points for the garden waste from the clean-ups and these drums are cleared weekly. ‘Keep Dawncliffe Square Clean’ signage will soon be erected and gardens have been created in common areas. Together with Westville Conservancy and with the help of Bob’s Tree Felling and ACS Skip Hire we have started cleaning up the area opposite Salamanca Centre and will soon transform that whole verge. The pathway at the bottom of Glenheath Place has been cleared and planted with indigenous ivy. Potholes and streetlight failures are reported and attended to regularly. Street signs which were almost illegible have also been scrubbed and cleaned and they look like new again and our area is looking better than it has looked in the past 20 years or so,” he said.

He added that all the work that has been done is funded by small donations from residents in the Dawncliffe Square area and the general vibe in the community is extremely positive because of the above initiatives.
