A revenge attack resulted in the brutal rape of a woman in full view of her boyfriend by a knife-wielding suspect who made off with cash and cellphones belonging to the couple, on JG Champion Drive on Thursday evening.
Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Captain L Naidoo, said: “The complainant alleged that she was at her boyfriend’s work place, which is also his residence, where he sells fruit and vegetables. At that time an unknown male jumped over the retaining wall and entered the tent. The complainant’s boyfriend was busy washing dishes when the man demanded money. The suspect produced a knife and instructed the complainant’s boyfriend to lie down in a small passage, where he tied him up.” According to Capt Naidoo, the complainant alleged that the suspect was insistent on attaining the cash which her boyfriend denied having. “The suspect then took the complainant’s bag and stole R300 cash, her small Nokia cellphone and her passport, together with her other Samsung cellphone from the table. The suspect proceeded to instruct the complainant to lie on top of her boyfriend facing up and he said he was there to take revenge for a colleague of her boyfriend’s who stabbed him on the hand when he came to rob. The complainant alleged that her boyfriend pleaded with the suspect not to hurt her but rather kill him instead but the suspect threatened her with the knife to remove her clothes from the lower half of her body and then he raped her,” added Capt Naidoo.
“The victim alleged that the suspect instructed her to stand up and kiss him which she reluctantly did. The suspect ordered her to lie back down and he continued raping her. She claimed the suspect thereafter threatened to ignite a gas cylinder, but the victim got up and screamed causing the suspect to flee,” Capt Naidoo said. The suspect departed from the heinous scene with cellphones worth R2 800 and total cash of R1 800. Phoenix Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Umesh Singh, slammed the vile incident and said: “It is appalling that we have such a barbaric person lurking in our midst. It is utterly reprehensible that the couple had to endure such torture and trauma. It is fervently hoped that police will arrest the perpetrator and he must face the full might of the law.”
