The second phase of the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out started yesterday, 17 May, when people over 60 years old started receiving their vaccines.
The first phase has been completed with most healthcare workers receiving their vaccinations nationwide. People over 60 years can receive their Covid-19 vaccination if they register online. The Coronavirus Action Committee, COVAC, began their drive in assisting residents to register for the vaccine online. Clive Pillay from COVAC said they have successfully registered hundreds of people over 60 years old and that they will continue with the vaccine registration drive over the next two weekends at all the big shopping centres in Chatsworth and Welbedact, from 11am to 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. “You will see volunteers with bright orange bibs and a sticker on front saying COVAC Volunteer. Please approach them for help. All you would need is your ID number and your medical aid number if you are on medical aid. You also need a cellphone number to receive messages from government. It is a very simple process that will take about 10 minutes.” Pillay said when a person gets registered, they will then receive an SMS confirming that they are registered. “That person will then have to wait for a second SMS which will give a date, time and place that the person must go to get the vaccination.” For the next two weekends, COVAC volunteers with orange bibs will be at shopping centres between 11am and 1pm assisting people to register.
