An exotic pet breeder from Starwood in Phoenix is appealing for residents to not harm his 2metre black and yellow anaconda, that escaped after breaking the lock on itβs temporary enclosure, on Thursday.
Preesen Nair from Troy Street, said he last checked on his snake, Medusa, who is two-years-old, at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 26 January. When he returned to check on her at 10.30am on Thursday, she was nowhere to be found.
βThe snake is harmless unless you provoke it and stress it out. Other than that, sheβs pretty much tame as I handle her often. A new environment can cause her stress and she may bite, but so will any other animal out of itβs usual habitat who feels threatened. If you are not someone experienced in handling snakes, it would not be a good idea to handle her. I appeal to anyone in the Starwood and surrounding areas to be on the lookout for Medusa and to contact either the snake catcher or myself to rescue her if she has been spotted,β he said.
Medusa feeds on rats and rabbits, and Nair added that he had been power feeding her for her to gain weight.
βI fed her twice a week, but these breeds of snakes can usually go for about 3 to 4 months without food, although it is not healthy for them,β added Nair, who is an exotic pet breeder for 3 years.
Anyone who spots Medusa is urged to call Preesen Nair on 082 605 9530 or Jason Arnold on 082 745 6375.
