Three people sustained moderate burns after the vehicle they were travelling in burst into flames on Inanda Road in Verulam.

Passing motorists stopped and asked Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) to dispatch ambulances. Upon investigation, a bakkie was found engulfed in flames. “It was established that the bakkie was travelling towards Trenance Park when the engine compartment suddenly burst into flames.

“Two men and a woman who were seated at the front of the vehicle sustained moderate burns to their face and arms as the driver brought the vehicle to a stop,” explained Prem Balram of RUSA.

“Another female, seated at the back of the bakkie was also injured after she jumped out of the moving vehicle. Circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire is yet to be established,” said Balram.
