The Organisation for Disability Empowerment (ODE) recently donated wheelchairs to eight needy recipients.
The organisation’s Melanie Naidoo said the handover would not have been possible without the kind sponsorship by the Jamiatul Ulama KZN.
“It is always heart warming to see the face of recipients beaming with delight when receiving a wheelchair which makes so much of a difference in their daily lives”, she said.
She thanked Ward 90 Councillor Sunil Briijmohan as well as Previn Vedan and others for their support. ODE manager, Sophia Shaik said there is a long list of clients awaiting the supply of wheelchairs. “People are screened and staff do home visits and needs analysis to determine priority. We rely on the goodwill of businesses, community organisations and the public to donate wheelchairs,” she said.
The Jamiatul Ulama KZN and Romans Pizza in Chatsworth provided a sumptuous lunch for the recipients and others.
Individuals and businesses are encouraged to contact the organisation on 083 574 7368 to sponsor future programmes.
