Netcare 911 paramedics with the critically injured patient

Police are probing a fatal shooting at Warwick taxi rank on Canongate Road in Berea, which saw a wife shot dead in cold-blood and left her husband critically injured, on Sunday morning.

The slain woman has been identified as Zahira Khan and her husband, Zain, is still fighting for his life in hospital. Media liaison officer for Netcare 911, Shawn Herbst, said Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a shooting at a shop in the Berea area.

“Reports from the scene indicate that an adult female was shot dead and an adult male had sustained a gunshot wound and was left in a critical condition. The patient was treated on scene by an Advanced Life Support paramedic and once stabilised, he was rapidly transported to hospital for further treatment,” said Herbst. “On 25 November 2018 at about 07:50 am, a couple aged 35 and 38, were seated in their vehicle on Warwick Avenue about to open their shop when they were shot at. The wife (35) died instantly and the husband (38) was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

“They were also robbed of their belongings. A case of murder, attempted murder and robbery was opened at Durban Central police station for investigation,” said police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
