Isipingo police and a business owner have been praised for their swift action in thwarting a robbery at a business premises in the Isipingo CBD, recently, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.
Police seized a revolver, a homemade firearm and a knife that was used in an attempt to rob the business premises. “On 16 August, police received a report of a robbery at a business premises in Thomas Lane. They proceeded to the area and when they arrived, they discovered that the suspects had fled without taking any property as they had heard the sirens of approaching police vehicles.
“Police continued with the investigation and in a follow-up operation that was conducted, they arrested two suspects fitting the description provided. The suspects were found with a bag in their possession which contained a revolver, a homemade firearm and a knife,” said police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala.
The suspects aged 21 and 22 are facing attempted robbery, illegal possession of firearms and possession of a dangerous weapon charges. They appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court last week. Police patrols and visibility in the CBD has been stepped up to curb criminal activities.
