Pink is expected to be the prominent colour on the uMhlanga promenade on Sunday 17 June as the Pink Phoenix Cancer Foundation’s second annual Tutus and Tekkies 5km Fun Run makes a return. Last year, the event attracted over 400 people who supported the fundraising event.

The organisation’s founder, Sharon van Straaten, said she was blown away by the community’s support. “A massive thank-you to the community, our sponsors, the runners, volunteers and the media who help to bring the community together in creating awareness and support of cancer in honour of those we have lost to cancer and celebrate the cancer survivors,” van Straaten said. Participants are urged to don their beautiful pink tutus and bright tekkies for the event. The funds raised will go towards cancer awareness, as well as the organisation’s Kids 4 Life initiative, which provides financial assistance to the families of child cancer patients. According to van Straaten, their aim is not only to raise awareness on cancer but also an opportunity for cancer survivors and their families to celebrate life.
