The community can support The Association for the Aged (Tafta) Festive Drive to treat Durban’s elderly by tackling a unique charity – trail run to be held at the Virginia Bush Nature Reserve in Durban North on Sunday, 18 November this year.

Entries to the event have opened and the community is encouraged to sign up for a good cause. The race is scheduled to begin at 7am from the Virginia Preparatory School.

The annual sporting event, which is planned along an eco-route to appeal to fitness enthusiasts of all ages and fitness levels, also heralds the launch of Tafta’s annual Festive Drive to collect ‘Christmas cheerboxes’ of essential toiletries for elders; including donations towards three-course festive meals for its elder beneficiaries. The trail run event therefore, allows participants to not only enjoy a summer workout, but also contribute to making a difference to an elder in Tafta’s care, both in our homes and surrounding communities.

Tafta Divisional manager; income development and marketing Gail Samuels said: “This year being our 60th birthday year, we truly want families to come out in their numbers to enjoy an early morning workout with us, and embrace our active ageing drive by staying healthy and fit. Participants of all ages are encouraged to bring along a friend, grandparent, and parents; anyone that is inspired by living a healthy lifestyle.”

To contribute to the special fundraising event, participants can compete in either the 4km at a cost of R60 or 8km at a cost of R90, as well as contributing to the cheerbox toiletry collection, or donating towards an elder’s Christmas Meal at just R105 each.
