Umbilo SAPS received a complaint on Friday, 17 May, where a complainant was parked on King Dinizulu Road in his Polo Vivo.
The complainant was approached by three suspects, who held
him at gunpoint and pushed him over to the passenger’s seat.
Umbilo SAPS spokesperson, Captain Phumzile Makaula
said while one of the suspects pushed the complainant to the passenger’s seat the other two went into the back seat.
“The complainant struggled with the suspects and one of them tried
to strangle him. He managed to take the car keys from the ignition and swerved the vehicle. The car hit a wall on Berea Shopping Centre and while he was doing that, he got shot by one of the suspects on his upper arm. The suspect’s firearm accidentally shot one of his accomplices on the chest and he died instantly,” said Makaula.
She said after realising that the accomplice was dead, the other two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran away. “No arrests have been made as yet and the police are investigating a case of attempted car hijacking,” Makaula said.
