Six KZN lifesavers including ace beach sprinter, Mandi Maritz, are going for glory at the Lifesaving World Championship in Adelaide, Australia.
Maritz is oozing with confidence after proving her mettle at the SA interprovincial tournament and the Sanyo International Classic in Japan.
The team is being captained by another KZN accomplished lifesaver, Sasha-Lee Nordengen.Other top KZN members are Carmel Bilson, Keyta Purchase, Bianca von Bargen and Kristin Bellingham.
Bilson has set the bar in the surf and swimming pool. In the past two years, she has competed at national, provincial and club competitions. She played a pivotal role in Marine’s triumph in the national club tournament in Port Elizabeth.The team ethique in the KZN squad is fantastic and the other member, Nordengen. too has been in top form
While the KZN women’s team have the credentials to soar to great heights, the KZN men’s squad will also relish the experience on the international stage. Martin Binnedi, the Marine is making his world championship debut.He was in the SA squad at the Commonwealth Games. SA stalwart, Ryle de Morny, is the captain. He has been in the SA squad at the world championship for the past decade. Nick Notten and his his brother, Dominic, of Fish Hoek are also raring to go after a fabulous season on the local front.
The Australians are favourites to bag the coveted title’s on their home beaches.
