A suspect was shot dead and a Cowies Hill resident hospitalised after an attempted robbery led to a shootout. It was reported that the resident (55) was shot in the chest when three armed suspects accosted him as he entered his Buckingham Place residence at 1:30am on Friday, 2 November. This, according to communication, liaison and marketing officer for the eThekwini Inner and Outer West Cluster, captain Bongumusa Manqele.
“The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest after he was allegedly shot by one of the suspects. The victim, who also had a firearm, retaliated and shot at the suspects who then fled the scene on foot,” said Manqele.
According to Manqele, one suspect was found dead in the nearby bushes, one suspect is at large and one, a 25-year-old suspect, was arrested for attempted house robbery and attempted murder.
“The victim was transported to hospital for medical attention. The arrested suspect will be charged for attempted house robbery and attempted murder and will appear in court soon,” added Manqele.
