A 28-year-old male was placed under arrest after allegedly robbing and assaulting a sex-worker of her belongings in Ottawa on Wednesday, 26 July.

Reaction officers were dispatched to Old Main Road in Ottawa after receiving a call from a member of public who reported hearing a woman screaming for help at a nearby abandoned building.

Upon arrival a female (30) informed officers that she was a prostitute and was approached by a man who asked to have intercourse with her.

After proceeding to the abandoned building the woman undressed when the suspect allegedly began assaulting her and robbed her of her cellphone and R150 in cash. The suspect then left the woman bleeding from an injury to her head and fled the scene.

The victim provided officers with a clothing description of her attacker. While on patrol Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) members spotted a suspect matching the description fleeing on the R102. Officers pursued the suspect as he fled when he saw them apprehending him. While being interviewed the suspect from Riet River confessed to his deeds. The stolen cellphone and cash were found in his possession.
