Durban North police are investigating a case of attempted murder and robbery after a security guard was shot and robbed of his firearm at an upmarket hotel in uMhlanga on Tuesday, 15 August.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the 52-year-old security guard was ambushed by three armed men who left him in a critical condition.

“It is alleged that the victim was on duty when he was ambushed by three armed suspects who opened fire, wounding him on the upper hip before robbing him of his firearm,” said Col Netshiunda.

He confirmed that cases of attempted murder and robbery were opened at the Durban North police station and that no arrests have been made as yet. Tyron Powell of Marshall Security said: “The patient was in stable but critical condition and was transported to the hospital by a private ambulance service which was already on scene.”
