One person is in a critical condition and six others have sustained moderate injuries after the driver of a vehicle lost control of the car and veered off the road before hitting pedestrians and other vehicles on Austerville Drive in Wentworth this morning (Thursday).

Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos. Rescue Care Operations director, Garrith Jamieson, said, “Multiple patients had been injured and immediately more ambulances and Advanced Life Support units were dispatched. One pedestrian who had been walking on the pavement had sustained critical injuries and Advanced Life Support paramedics placed the man on a ventilator due to his serious injuries. The Lenmed 1 Aeromedical Helicopter was called to assist with rapid transportation to a specialist facility for the further care he urgently required. The remaining six patients had sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals.

SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.
