Phoenix Tabloid (PT): Who is Caleb Don Pillai ?
Caleb Don Pillai (CDP): I’m Caleb Don Pillai, also known as Caliber in the music scene. I’m from Phoenix, but I grew up in Clare Estate and went to school in Town. I’m passionate about creating content that speaks to the youth and shows them that they can be themselves without fear of judgment. I’m also currently focused on becoming the biggest content creator in Durban, then all of South Africa, and eventually having the world know my name.
PT: You are a very popular TikTok influencer, tell us about your journey on the App…when did your first videos start gaining momentum ?
CDP: I joined TikTok to have fun and express myself, but I quickly realised I could do more. I had this vision of connecting with the youth, teaching them they don’t need to conform to anyone’s standards. My first videos didn’t take off right away, but I stayed true to myself, and over time, my message began to resonate with people. Nearly 100k followers later, I’m grateful for how far I’ve come, but this is just the beginning.
PT: Where do you draw inspiration for your videos from ?
CDP: My inspiration comes from my own journey and the struggles I’ve faced growing up. I know what it’s like to be judged or misunderstood, and I want to show the youth that they can be themselves and still achieve great things. Whether it’s family, friends, or the energy I get from my followers, I take inspiration from everything around me and aim to uplift everyone I reach.
PT: Do your record your own videos ? What equipment do you use?
CDP: Most of my videos are self-recorded, as I love keeping them authentic. I use just a smartphone and occasionally a ring light for some better lighting, but that’s it. The focus is always on the message and the vibe, not the equipment.
PT: What’s your fan base like ?
CDP: I’m almost at 100k followers, and the engagement I get from my followers is amazing. While likes and comments are nice, what matters most to me is the impact I have on people and the smiles I bring to their faces.
PT: Although you are entertaining with no sensitive or harmful content in your videos, there are still haters out there. How do you deal with negative remarks?
CDP: I’ve learned to ignore negativity. There’s always going to be someone who doesn’t get it or who feels the need to bring you down. But my focus is on spreading good vibes, making people smile, and staying true to my mission. I don’t let the haters distract me from what I’m here to do – spread positivity and be everyone’s favourite.
PT: What is the latest trend you are pushing through your videos and how is the public reacting to it ?
CDP: The latest trend in my videos is all about self-expression. I love challenges that empower people to be who they are and embrace their individuality. The public is reacting really well – people are joining in on the trends, creating duets, and sharing their stories. The energy is incredible, and it’s been amazing to see people embrace their own uniqueness.
PT: What is your message to the youth out there ?
CDP: To all the youth out there: be yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you who you should be or put you in a box. You have so much potential, and the world needs your unique energy. Keep pushing, keep grinding, and remember that you can do whatever you set your mind to. Never let anyone dim your light.
PT: As an influencer, what are your goals and aspirations for the future? Do you see yourself in other platforms such as television ?
CDP: My ultimate goal is to become the biggest content creator in Durban, then South Africa, and eventually have the world know my name. But I’m also passionate about branching into music with my rap name, Caliber, and showing the youth that they don’t need to fit into any box. I also see myself getting into television, music videos, and brand partnerships – I want to keep growing and creating opportunities that inspire others.
PT: On a lighter note, what’s your favourite food / pastime / hobbies ?
CDP: I’m all about good vibes and good food! I love burgers, pizza, and anything that brings comfort. In my free time, I’m into football/soccer, listening to music, and inspiring the youth (my people).
PT: Who is your favourite influencer and why ?
CDP: My favourite influencer is the man in the mirror. I learnt a long time ago you have to have your own back in this game, and be your biggest fan, hate will come, but you have to be strong. Also, a special shoutout to my mum, my friends and everyone who follows me, I love and appreciate you all.
